TrueCrypt 5.0a is out
Yesterday the TrueCrypt foundation released TrueCrypt 5.0a. Many bugs have been fixed – you find a list of the changes here.
In case you had trouble with the pre-boot authentication you might want to upgrade to the new version.

LOL nice filename!
Thanks!
thank you very much
ps. has anyone tried the x64 version? 2 PCs here are using Vista x64. thanks
how do I use this version?
I uninstalled truecrypt 5 (the version I installed using the installer from truecrypt.org) and then unzip the file (the one I got from this page) contents into d:\truecrypt.
I then copied truecrypt-x64.sys into C:\Windows\System32\drivers. And I rebooted my machine. When I ran d:\truecrypt\truecrypt.exe, it says the truecrypt device driver is not running.
I am using vista ultimate x64.
thanks for the help
@jarthel:
Don’t uninstall the original TrueCrypt 5.0a version. Simply overwrite the existing files.
Windows Vista (64 bit) requires kernel mode drivers to be digitally signed. This is optional for any 32 bit Windows and any Windows XP. However, both original precompiled TrueCrypt drivers contain a certificate.
To use the improved TrueCrypt driver under 64 bit Vista, you will need to install a test certificate, which is typically only used by developers to test their drivers during development.
A description of how to generate and install a test certificate and use it for signing the driver is explained here.
after installing the test certificate? what’s next? follow the same procedure but I’ll do it for “truecrypt-x64.sys”?
thanks again
hmmm I overwrote all the files in “C:\Program Files (x86)\TrueCrypt” with the files that came with the zip file. I then copied “truecrypt-x64.sys†to C:\windows\system32\
drivers and rebooted the PC and truecrypt seems to work fine?
Where have the files gone???
Unfortunately I’m not allowed to distribute the modified version of TrueCrypt. I respect their license, so I will not offer any precompiled binaries for download. And yes, I already asked the TrueCrypt foundation to use the assembly version from Brian Gladman, but so far I didn’t get any response.
Don’t worry, you could simply upload patch files which have to be applied to the original files in order to gain TurboTrueCrypt
This would be 100% legal and they could not do anything about it!
I must be very lucky then! I got a copy before the link was deleted
Same here. Is it allowed to post some downloadlinks here?
to iceman: I was looking for your thread in regards to using assembly and it seems this was deleted?
Hi all,
TrueCrypt foundation has implemented AES in ASM in its latest Version 5.1 - so, let’s thank Andreas for kicking off the process!
